PRESS RELEASE: Source - Ford Motor Company
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 6, 2002 Ford Motor Company and
Harley-Davidson Motor Company today unveiled the 2003 Ford
Harley-Davidson F-150 SuperCrew a supercharged,
limited-edition truck that marks the beginning of a second
century of business and the continuation of a successful
alliance between two American manufacturers.
Getting two giants of American motoring together was a
natural back in 1999 when we introduced the first Ford
Harley-Davidson TM F-150 pickup, says Steve Lyons, Ford
Division president. The alliance has continued, and with both
Ford Motor Company and Harley-Davidson turning 100 in 2003, we
thought it only fitting that we produce another special
vehicle.
The Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 SuperCrew is being introduced
as part of the 100th Anniversary Open Road Tour, a 10-city
traveling festival that Harley-Davidson is hosting as part of
its 100th birthday celebration. This weekend, the festival is
in the Los Angeles area at the California Speedway, where the
live music, motoring history and hard-driving atmosphere
provides the ideal venue for introducing the newest Built Ford
Tough truck. |
The 2003 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 SuperCrew gets
you where you're going with ease with its supercharged
5.4-liter SOHC Triton V-8 engine, producing 340 horsepower at
4,500 rpm and an impressive 425 foot-pounds of torque at 3,250
rpm. The engine meets low-emission vehicle standards.
This special-edition truck utilizes the F-Series four-speed
automatic transmission. It has a 3.73:1 axle ratio and a
limited-slip differential. Anti-lock brakes are standard. |
The looks of the 2003 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150
SuperCrew recall the trucks strong heritage by incorporating
styling cues of the past with an innovative flair. It
continues to be available in black, but for 2003 also offers
an optional two-tone paint option of black over silver with a
high outline.
Body color bumpers, a new front valance with fog lamps along
with a chrome bar upper grill and new chrome tie-down hooks,
and clear-lens headlamps make the front end distinctive.
Unique 20x9-inch five-spoke chromed aluminum wheels with the
HARLEY-DAVIDSON Bar & Shield logo identification on the center
caps add even more boldness to this truck.
Power and purpose are communicated through a stance that is
lowered by an inch and a specially tuned exhaust system with a
dual inlet-dual outlet muffler that ends in chrome 3 ½-inch
slash-cut exhaust tips.
A specially created 100th Anniversary nameplate, is
displayed on the fender and tailgate of the 2003 model to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the maker of the worlds
most popular trucks and the leading maker of heavyweight
motorcycles. |
A leather-wrapped console lid with the
100th
Anniversary nameplate, two-tone leather quad captains chairs
with the HARLEY-DAVIDSON Bar & Shield nameplate and brushed
stainless steel and rubber pedals complement the exterior
styling and stance inside the 2003 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150
SuperCrew.
Homelink and TravelNote , an electronic automatic
temperature control system, a unique instrument cluster, newly
standard six-disc in-dash CD changer and a new heated
backlight are among the standard features. The Ford
Harley-Davidson F-150 SuperCrew can be personalized with an
optional power sliding rear window, engine block heater,
heated front seats, bed extender and moon roof. |
Headquartered
in Dearborn, Mich., Ford Motor Company is the second-largest
automaker in the world, with manufacturing and distribution in
more than 200 markets. Ford brands include Aston Martin, Ford,
Jaguar, Land Rover, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercury and Volvo, as well
as the related Ford Credit, Hertz and Quality Care services.
Harley-Davidson Inc. is the parent company of Harley-Davidson
Motor Company, Buell Motorcycle Company and Harley-Davidson
Financial Services Inc. Harley-Davidson Motor Company, the
only major U.S.-based motorcycle manufacturer, produces
heavyweight motorcycles and offers motorcycle parts,
accessories, apparel and general merchandise. Buell produces
sport and sport-touring motorcycles, and Harley-Davidson
Financial Services serves Harley-Davidson dealers and
customers.
Ford celebrates its centennial on June 16, 2003, and plans a
number of special-edition vehicles, events and exhibits
through 2003 to honor its storied history. The Harley-Davidson
100th Anniversary Open Road Tour is a 14-month celebration
that will culminate with the Party on Aug. 31, 2003, in
Milwaukee, Wis.! |
Ford will produce up to 12,000 of the 2003 Ford
Harley-Davidson F-150 SuperCrew limited-edition trucks for
sale throughout North America; carrying a manufacturers
suggested retail price of $37,295 in the United States,
including destination and delivery. The vehicle will be
produced in Missouri at Fords Kansas City Assembly Plant.
In addition to the 2003 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 SuperCrew,
the companies alliance results in development of other
products such as co-branded clothing and vehicle accessories.
These two companies have been around 100 years because
they've produced products that meet the needs and wants of the
individual customer products that people aspire to, not only
for their looks, but for quality as well, says Lyons.
Forming alliances that strengthen the identity of each
partner, such as ours with Harley-Davidson, is one of the ways
we will continue to lead as we enter our second century of
business.
During the Open Road Tour event in Los Angeles, Ford will
donate a 2003 Ford Harley-Davidson TM F-150 SuperCrew as part
of a Harley-Davidson's goal to raise at least $5 million for
the Muscular Dystrophy Association to support research and
efforts to find cures for a number of diseases that attack and
destroy muscles. The drawing takes place during the LA event.
Ford and Harley-Davidson are two companies whose commitment
to customers extends to the community as well, Lyons says. We are proud to join Harley-Davidson and the Muscular
Dystrophy Association in the effort to combat neuromuscular
diseases. |
